Hayes Sewing Machine Company of Delaware is a locally owned and operated fabric and sewing machine store. We have been in business for more than 40 years and proudly serve Wilmington, Newark, Dover, Philadelphia, Delaware County, Chester County, and Southern New Jersey.

We offer the largest service center for all brands of sewing machines, and we can service any machine form 1851 to the present. In addition to offering fabrics, sewing machines, and services, we also offer classes on sewing and machine instruction by certified instructors.

We sell quality, name brand sewing machines from leading manufacturers: SINGER, BABYLOCK, and BERNINA. We also sell reconditioned machines, machine carry cases, books and patterns, fabrics, notions, threads, buttons, machine embroidery supplies, quilting supplies and much more. We plan to offer many of our products for sale on our online store.

The Hayes Family, Trevor and Mary Hayes, and their daughters Stephanie, Loretta and Pamela, have enjoyed taking care of the sewing needs of their customers for many years. With over 40 years experience in sewing machine education and service, there aren't many questions we can't answer for you. We also have great people working with us:

and so knowledgeable - she can help you with everything from coordinating fabrics to software questions.

1949 Singer Sewing Manual - THE MENTAL APPROACH TO SEWING

"Prepare yourself mentally for sewing. Think about what you are going to do... never approach sewing with a sigh or lackadaisically. Good results are difficult when indifference predominates. Never try to sew with a sink full of dishes or beds unmade. When there are urgent housekeeping chorse, do these first so your mind is free to enjoy your sewing."

"When you sew, make yourself as attractive as possible. Put on a clean dress. Keep a little bag full of French chalk near your sewing machine to dust your fingers at intervals. Have your hair in order, powder and lipstick put on with care... if you are constantly fearful that a visitor will drop in or your husband will come home and you will not look neatly put together,
you will not enjoy your sewing as you should."
